Just wondering which pair or cichlids that you have owned were the most enjoyable to watch and keep?

I've only bred jack dempseys, but it was very interesting to watch them. Nothing like the colors when they are breeding. I think im going to move on to trimacs soon. Red Terrors also look amazing, those may be next.

My most enjoyable pair would have to be my Herichthys Pearsi. I'm so attached to these two fish. They continuously go through the breeding thing but i never end up with any fry. I have heard that they are late breeders though. Gentle giants for sure.

Common fish, but I really enjoyed my pair of Convicts. They were extremely protective and attentive. The male was the most diligent. He flared at every member of my family. They both were beautiful while rearing fry. I'm waiting for my Festae to pair off next. But now I really want another Con pair.

I agree with convicts being cool to watch.

If you go with trimacs, you are going with the most interactive fish Ive ever owned. They are really cool and look beautiful when spawning.

they havent spawned yet and are still little but right now my GT pair is by far my fav, they have awesome colors even when not breeding, and its so fun to watch them cruise around the tank together with everyone rushing to get out of their way, they know they own the place :)

can you guys post pictures of the fishes youre talking about too? That'd be nice to see. Thanks.

my old green terrors where mad as pair my fav too
pitty they died :( i got a video of how aggressive they where when breeding ...
( i took the video b4 cleaning the bottom of the tank.....)

I've only ever owned two pairs. My 12" Albino Red O's, who were just simply awesome, and my Carpintis/Blood Parrot pair. Too bad they eat every spawn. I'm hoping for some nice hybrids soon. No flaming. Haha. But my O's were some of the most compassionate fish when it came to breeding. Both would switch off "shifts" to watch the eggs while the other would come up to eat. And when another fish came close, they wouldn't snap at it. They would simply open their mouths and push them to the other side of the tank without damaging them. Not to mention they made a family of my 7" red and 3" ART. They would swim in a school daily until it came time to breed. The only damage ever done by them was the attempted egg snatching by a particularly aggressive Firemouth. Came home from a night out to find an FM missing a chunk out of his entire midsection. Dead, of course. Here's a picture:
