When and how to get fry out of main tank

With my 220 gallon I have an overflow that when I was breeding jags all the fry got sucked up and over into my sump

Is there a way to get the eggs out of the tank or the very young fry out without damaging the fry or killing them?

This is just for general cichlid no mouth breeders just egg laying cichlids

You can try clear airline tubing. Its soft and the light suction shouldn't harm the eggs.

That's exactly the idea (my suggestion as well). Just suck them out once the eggs have hatched (or when you are comfortable doing it).

You can also just remove whatever surface they lay the eggs on (flat rock, terra-cotta pot, etc)
