Hey All! I am kind of a newb to FH. I am in the process of growing out my second one ever. She is close to 5" right now i would guess and is in a tank of central american boys. Typically how big/old do FH need to be before they are mature enough to breed? She has some odd behaviors with some of the guys in the tank, and has been battling with a salvini lately. Seeing her dig a lot of gravel. I have also thought about putting her in my 90 gallon with a big male midas when she gets a little bigger, so she isn't causing so much drama with my 125 tank. Not sure how my big midas in the 90 will take to her though, if that is even enough space for them. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Depending on the type of fh, as small as 2.5-3.5".

Most of my females have produced as little as 3". 90 gallons is plenty of space. My 90 gal, I've divided into 2 and had 2 pairs spawning at the same time. 40 gallons is an ideal breeding tank.

Good to know. Thanks! I would like to try and breed something in my 90 and I love flowerhorns. Not too many of them around my area. I'd like to try breeding something that is relatively rare around here, which could be a lot of fish, but that way I could sell some to local pet stores and hopefully grow the hobby a bit here. My female FH has still been digging and acting a little friendly with the midas in the tank. She also put a good beat down on a male salvini in there that's a good inch bigger than she is. She has a tude for sure! Thanks for the input yall. Any other advice is appreciated.

Pretty sure my female is more less a red dragon. I'll try and snap some shots of her. Picked her up at a petco hoping for a male. Can't be anything too special but she's pretty!

Yea zz's as opposed to kamfas sexually mature at a younger age.

That is kind of what I've noticed. Has anyone ever tried breeding a midas x flowerhorn cross? I thought I found some video on youtube of some offspring and they looked kind of wierd. Not super pretty at all. Would it even be worth it? Or would I be breeding a bunch of feeder fish? I have a male red texas (supposedly from Petsmart) and he's pretty cool looking so far. When he gets some size on him, he might be fun to try and cross with this female to see what happens. But ultimately, I think I would just like to get another zz Male and do it right.

Here's some pics of my girl. She's doing pretty well. Showing interest in some of the boys in the tank but so far nothing.
