Is just having a juvenile fish that has the potential to grow to monster sizes enough?

Or do my fish have to be at a monster size?

How big actually is monster fish?

Is it different for each species? e.g, can someone with an abnormally large guppy consider themselves a Monster Fish Keeper?

Any fish can be a monster fish keeper. Monster fish is more about temperament then it is about size. You can have a 2" fish that has the mindset of a monster.

Some define monster fish keeping in terms of passion. If you are passionate, then you are a monster fish keeper. I do have trouble with this definition though. I don't think that anyone can say MFK members are more passionate about fish keeping then AC members.

I also kept bettas for years. I was not a monster fish keeper then. if monsters are defined by attitude, then my big boys are not monsters. Everyone defines monster differently. I do like the welcome page for MFK.

Imo you need to have owned at least a 100 gallon tank to qualify as a true mfker.

the tank size is the most important

monster fish keeper is defined just about how you want it to be......... it can be like pacu mom and alex said or a 5 inch fish that has an attitude of a dovii....... ( and no its not really defined on tank size either..... )

i had over 30 tanks at once...... that considers me a MFKer, but none being over 55..... so yes i considered myself a MFKer.... being a MFKer is defined on how you want it to be...

Sorry just my opinion :)

Just how passionate you are about your animals. Anyone who says it's about the size/type of fish or tank size is most likely a delusional elitist. If you keep Livebearers and you're just as passionate about them as a Pima keeper or a Gar keeper is about their fish, then sure you are a MFK'er.
