for all the breeders out there. So my rays finally got some pups out. i got 3 pups born 2 days ago. they are swimming actively and are seperated from the parents. currently in a pup tank system i had made a while ago. But my question is when do they normally eat? I see most pups normally eat after 2 days... but mine still have yet to touch food. they just swim over it. i tried blackworms, bloodworms, shrimp, fish paste (tilapia chopped finely), and some shrimp.... they dont seem to touch anything. water parameters are fine. they get a daily water change of 30%

I never ever feed until after 3 days from birth. Sharks and rays feed on yolk in the womb. When they are born, there is still enough yolk to sustain them for a few days. It's how they survive in the wild, until they can hunt and fend for themselves.
So long story short. You can feed them all you want in the first 3 or 4 days but if there is still yolk inside their bellies, the yolk gets digested before any food that's coming in. So if you feed them on the first day of birth and they still are feeding on yolk for 3 days after that, the food rots in their gut and can poison them. This happens alot with sharks hatched from eggs that people buy at the LFS.

Better safe than sorry in my opinion.

3-4 days....i got them on to tilapia asap.......i would skip worms.....they are like crack to them ....hard to get certain rays once on worms....id do tilapia and shrimp.
