This is an update on the 90 gallon. Everybody’s doing great and all test results are coming back good on twice weekly water changes (50%). I’m still trying to rehome one discus. So I can stick to the one per 10 gallon rule until they grow larger and pair off. Then I’ll decide which ones I want to keep. I added these two slate rocks for when they do in the future pair off. I have mainly 4 to 5 inchers but a couple 3 inchers who have been in the aquarium for a month but together for two months before the 90 upgrade. Are they even breeding size at five inches? When do discus to decide to pair off? Like years from now? Or months? In proper conditions considered. I figured them blood worms, live black worms and flakes. Also.... does the slate have to be at a slant or would they lay on these rocks?

Females spawn as early as 6 months, but usually by a year old you will get spawning from both sexes. Sometimes males aren't fertile until 12 - 18 months of age. Several of your fish should be large enough to spawn when they're comfortable and ready.

It's unlikely that they'll spawn on those slate rocks because discus breed on vertical surfaces. It's more likely they'll lay on the driftwood or the overflow box, sometimes even the glass.

There's no discus breeding spot in your tank, they don't prefer wood except it really must.

Make the rock vertical, they'd be more interested.

If discus are ready to spawn, they will spawn anywhere. When I was selling discus I kept them in crowded bare bottom tanks with only sponge filters and they all constantly laid eggs on the glass or even the sponge filters. They’ll absolutely spawn on the vertical driftwood you have in there, and also the overflow box.

I see you have a power head. Make sure the flow isn’t too high, or that there are slow zones in the tank. They don’t like a lot of current. They usually look for a quiet, calm spot to spawn.

Thank you for helping me through this.. speaking of this, I’ve tried going without it but with white sand the poop, which is might add is black on the white sand just isn’t a good look. I have it pushed down and against the glass so if keeps the floor clean in the front. But the back seems to be a dead of slow spot behind the driftwood. The fish spend
%90 of the time swimming in the very front of the aquarium interacting with my fiancé and I and begging for food. So I think everything is good. What are your opinions on this?

If you prefer time>environment then everything is fine. Human bred without bedroom anyway ;)
