i've seen some juvie green terrors and they don't look green. how big do they get before they turn irridescent green? shouldn't they be green when they're small?

green terrors constantly change colors and patterns. They might be almost black and then turn bright green. Black stripes, single horizontal stripe, or spot might also appear on the body or face.

Green Terrors DO NOT constantly change colours and pattern. They are always green with the silvery sparkling, though he can get darker due of stress.
You might have been looking at some mislabled acaras.

No. I stand by my post.

I have the standard fake terrors (gold saums) and they change a lot depending on mood and breeding behavior. It might have something to do with camouflage, but there is 0 doubt that the fish do indeed change.

My experience with them is that they are pretty drab untill the get closer to three inches, but start showing their potential around two inches. Their color really depends on several factors including diet, mood, genetics, lighting, sex, and water quality. My last one was very green in one tank , then when he was moved to his permanent home he looked more blue-ish green.

thanks for the reply guys. the reason i was asking is that i had a green terror that was about 3 inches awhile back who was very sparklly green, he died unfortunately about a month ago. i got a new one to replace him and this one is a lot smaller and not nearly as green or shiny. i'm hoping it trns out like my old one, but like any other fish i'm sure they can vary.
