Hello--

I have an unwanted pregnancy with one of my peacocks. She is obviously holding right now, and I did the research on everything I need to do except...when?

How do I know when she is holding fry and not just eggs? Do I have to wait until she let's them out to swim around? (free swimming) or can I check sooner?

She opened her mouth a little and I could just see white inside, so I'm fairly sure it is still eggs--but I want to be ready when it's time.

Thanks,

sd

Unwanted? like you don't want the frys? if so give them to me!

if you dont want them strip her now and toss the eggs or fry back in the tank, the longer she is holding the weaker and more vulnerable she will be

When I don't want fry I just let the females hold full term and the catfish get them soon after they are released. Never had any issues with my females from letting nature take it's course.

Yea, I actually previously discovered some fry before I knew anyone was holding. Two survived and grew a little, and now there is just one that is a survivor and looks like he's going to make it.

I appreciate the other post regarding stripping her now so she doesn't get too weak, but there has to be a fair amount of stress associated with the stripping that could be avoided. Plus, if any of the fry are strong, smart and stealthy enough to survive, I'll keep them.

I said the pregnancy was unwanted because I'm not trying to breed and I am almost certain the fry will be hybrids.

Thanks all, I think I'll let nature take it's course. I will do a little more online research and find out when the usual stripping is supposed to take place. I think I recall it's after she starts letting them out to swim.
