When do Midas Cichlids get their hump on their heads? I've had my Midas Cichlid since November and it shows no signs of humpage.

This is a picture (recent) of my Midas. Is it a male or female? Thanks.

hmmm i'd say wait a few more inches..
i sold mine when it was about 6 inches or so and it was barely beginning to grow its hump..

it might be a female

They can grow nuchal humps as early as three inches.

It depends on a few factors:

Food (high quality and variety is key)

Environment (good water chemistry and tank size and setup)

Dominance (Dominant fishes will usually be the first to develope humps)

Good gene and spawning behavior too.

I agree w/ this. My dominant one outgrew the rest quickly and he had a big hump. The female he ended up breeding w/ also developed a little hump though...
