Raising my first Oscar Brick has been a blast and educational. I'd posted before about his growth pattern. He's currently holding at 11" length. Looking at him the other day I can see he's getting super bulky and kind of "high backed". I remember he had this shape as a teeny thing, kind of 'tall' for his size (some Os are more bullet shaped it seems). He's not the longest thing out there but has always been muscular. He's around a year old so I'm curious as to how he'll do in another year or two size wise. Best description I can come up with is stocky. I may measure him again at the end of the summer or around fall. He's definitely 2+ inches thick. But very active and always on the move, almost never stays still.

I've seen monstrous Os on U Tube, 3 inches thick. Most of them are around 5 years old though. My uncle had two oscars, one 13" and the other near 15" years ago. They were thick like that. Someone posted here that a 14" Oscar is twice the weight of an 11" one...I'd like to know where that data comes from...I'm assuming it accounts for bulk as well as length. For the record I did see a huge pair at the lfs I go to, both tigers. I was awed at the size, they looked like dinner plates. Manager said they were a mature pair that had been together for some time. They didn't appear to be for sale. I'd hate to keep a w/c schedule with those honkers!

They keep growing to some degree their entire life, after they max out lengthwise they grow in width. In another year I would expect your Oscar to be a bit thicker.

As for where the data comes from, there have been plenty of people who have weighed their O's!

Although the record Oscar caught in Lake Okeechobee Florida was about 2.5 LBs, I believe there was one caught in the Everglades at 3.5 LBs.
Here's one I saw in a pond just outside of Everglades City.

I had a pair back in the 80s easily hit 15"
