When do the spots go away?

Hey guys I was just wondering at about what size/age to the spots fade on red belly piranhas?

i disagree, my RBP is a little ove 3 years old ( well since i got him, i'd assume he was maybe half a year old when i got him )

hes now 3 and doesnt have spots, hes approx 4.74 inchs long. he lost the spots about a year ago.



i wish they had the spots forver tho....... i lovve the spots!

Odd, i would've expected your red belly to reach that size in the first 8-9 months of it's life...not 3 years

I personaly don't believe this info is credible/relivant to typical piranha growth patterns as yours is obviously seriously stunted.


My piranhas are 8 months old now and approching 7 inches long now


They fade around 5-6 inches but if you look hard enough you can always see them.

I notice bout 6" or so they really get their glitter n darker olive drab on top I don't ever really remember spots after the get their mature colors.I know for fact you won't see em when they turn black(darker) guess it depends tank, maybe sub color, stunted, food fed, water Quility. Maybe I little of all of it.including it genes probably has a part in it also

hmm. is it true that the fish are magnified cuz of the water/glass? i know when i scuba dive, everything's like a 1/3 bigger and closer

Idk I think the a 6" fish in your tank is a 7" fish in a bucket.IMO fish always look lil smaller in a big tank with thick glass.
