Howdy,

I just cleaned my UV unit and replaced the bulb. I noticed that the quartz sleeve has some haziness to it. My UV unit has a wiper, thus, where is no gross deposit. Looks like the haziness might actually come more from the inside.

I'm not overly worried, and I Hooked it back up as is (well, with new bulb).

Just made we think. I've had the unit for 3 1/2 years now.

Thanks,
HarleyK

I've never replaced a sleeve, only bulbs. Is this a manufacturer recommendation? I have the jebao/oddessey uv's in a ll my tanks; I change bulbs every 6-12months and ballasts when they burn out. Never thought about changing the sleeves. I guess It would be beneficial if the old sleeve is no longer clear, but I'm not sure if that will block any uv exposure. Interesting topic.

I wash the sleeve off yearly with muriatic acid. Even when the quartz sleeve looks clean the acid wash will boost performance. But use caution when using muriatic acid its very nasty stuff.
