I recently lost my first bichir (not the first one I have owned). I am not sure of the cause but I believe it choked on a hikari massivore pellet. The fish was a 7-8" very chunky palmas polli. Has anyone else noticed these are very aggresive and greedy feeders even for polys? One of my endlis who is the same time can suck them back easily due to its large mouth. I have one more polli, a delhezi, 2 sens, 1 endli, 1 endli x lap and an ornate. They range in size from the 7" sens to the 10" endli I was just wondering when you think it would be safe to switch to the massivore pellets? I would hate to lose another poly they are my favourites. I couldn't care less when they eat their tankmates.

Actually its size was fine.Why do you think it choked on it? waht is the composition of your substrate? my pollis are no more agressive than my others but they have thier own tank and don't really have to compete for food-Anne
My substrate is playground sand. The tank is moderately planted 72"x24"x20". That is the only thing that I can think I did differently. My water chemistry is fine 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and 20 nitrates. If the water was the problems I think I would see signs in my clown loaches first. Any other suggestions?
Just cut up the massivore to half or to 4 pieces and feed it your small bichirs. I used to have some 3" endli, 3" polli, 3" ornate, 3" delhezi and 5" sene and all were eating cut up massivore. At 8" it shouldn't have a problem. My 7" polli eat a whole massivore just fine.

Thanks for your responses if it wasn't from the massivore pellets it was probably from a large shrimp. I live on east broadway King EL. I actually just emailed reboh aquatics about ordering some new bichirs and he said he was sending out an order to Kole in a week so to email him xD.
