So BD's are high grade Leo's but what defines a BD from a Leo?

Here are my 2 Leo's. Which name do they fall under? They are both currently around 7" disk

Second Leo is definitely Bd x Leo, he was bred by a member on here.
With this "combination" if you can call it that given they are after all all leopoldi you have to remember that the pups can take on board the genetics of either fish, in this case at the moment you would say he has taking after mum the most, she is pure classic leo the father however is Bd.
Steve, the male is only about 5.5 to 6" at the most.
Both looking good!

I do not think I understand. Could you explain the difference between Bd and Leo? Thank you.

BD is a locality of Leopoldi that comes from the sao felix river. This area is known to produce Leopoldi with belly spotting, heavy spotting around the eyes, and I believe an extra row of spots compared to a classic leo. I am far from a black ray expert so maybe someone else can confirm that :)

Ill make it easy to understand

Black diamonds have the extra row of dots around the outside of the disk. A higher grade black diamond will have better spots that are a perfect chain around the outer disk. First image as you see has dots around outer edge but not perfectly around. Second has no dots around outer edge.

Looking at a fish´s discspotting is the easiest way of telling what you are dealing with.

Normal leo = no disc spotting.

BD x leo. Some disc spotting. May lose some/all as they grow.

Pure BD. The pic says it all.

Thanks for the replies Guys. Both rays are BD x Leo but I assumed the offspring will become either one or the other.

So is my male a Leo and my female a low grade BD based on the descriptions given?

no their not a bd or a classic leo their a little bit of both they fall under the category of BD x leo hybrid, they are not a BD or a classic leo their kinda in between
