When does drop eye start?

Well my Silver is about 8"s now and fat, I was wondering around what size does drop eye start to form so I can keep and eye out for it...

I have two 25" silvers, one I adopted at 21" and it already had DE in one eye. The other silver I raised from 3" to 18" without DE. After a violent collision into the side of the tank while I was trying to catch her for tansfer to another tank she developed DE. Six months later at 24" she had another collision with the top of the tank during a water change, she the developed DE in her other eye also.

In both cases the DE developed within a few hours after each collision.

I had one at 12" and the eye was starting to drop..I guess it can drop at any giving length after 12". If you feed it mostly floating pellet, it will have less chance of DE. If you feeding it feeder, way more chance of DE cause they have to look down for the feeder..

Just feed it with superworms,less chance of getting a DE.

right now it is getting floating pellets and hand fed shrimp... it feels funny when it bites lol

I have an 18" silver in a pond that im feeding floating sticks to and he has absolutly no sign of drop eye at all.

The silver that i had a while back started to get drop eye at the 10'' mark.

i got a silver an hes 20cm and starting to get de in his left eye...only a bit though
