at what size would a 210 be too small for armatus??? 15-16"?
the tanks is like 6x2x2.5 LxWxH
You could keep a 24"-30" Armatus by itself in that tank. It would be too small to house a 36" Armatus, though :D

it depends on the fish...

fang started bumping his nose alot when i knew it was time to upgrade.

i think u will know when to upgrade when he starts getting ticked at tankmates :(

not very comfortable though. They are so fast and jumpy that i figured maybe 15-16" or so he would bash the side with his quick movements

i have heard for so long that you need a 12' x 4'+ for a armatus for life, if what you are saying is true then you can get by with a 210 nearly for life.

ahh he is already ticked at tankmates, he hates teh arowana, but some days are better than others, he is 12-13" now, recently when i changed to smelt, he started growing.

I think the problem with giving a good answer on a life long tank size for army's is that no one knows what size that will be in aquaria.

No one has made it past I think around 30" so far.

If I was to guess. I would say you might get to 18-20" in a 6x2. But thats depending on its individual attitude. For all we know if may start bashing at 12". It wouldn't be the first one to do so that I have read about.

i say each fish is different.
i know someone with 2 or 3 16" armatus in a 5x2x2 in perfect condition.
theres a GATF in there too and a tat i think.
you'll know when the fish shows signs of it being too small.

i've seen an 18 incher kept in a 50gallon for months now, but wouldn't recommend it. ideally the fish should be able to turn at least which your size provisions well for. and be able to make atleast one full speed tail stroke/dash from one side to other with enough space to slow to idle with out having to avoid the glass add current.

heard they grow slow after about 12inches so the tank should do fine for a while. The hard part is not adding too many tank mates.

Actually, Armatus is calm when it grows older and bigger. They're not skittish like ATF. However, it's always good to keep the water level 4-5 inches below the top, since they may go up-up and away during feeding time, or they think there's food on the top :screwy:

agreed.
in fact, armatus are less skittish than most big characins in the hobby.
even my little guy doesnt swim away when my face is at the glass in front of him.
