I recently obtained a used 115 gallon for free from my pet store. It's over 10 years old and I'm just cleaning it up and testing for leaks but I have a fear that it'll soon leak cause someone had told me that aquarium sealent disintegrates after 10 years, is this true? Should I not even bother setting it up? I don't want to set it up then in a month have it leak. I'd rather buy a new tank of I have to take the glass apart and re seal it.
What are your thoughts?

I hope that aquarium sealant doesn't disintegrate after 10 years. I would be in a lot of trouble if it did, because many of my aquariums are over 30 years old. LOL!

You don't have to take the tank apart to reseal it. You can just do a "quick" reseal by replacing the silicone on the inside of the tank.

Good to know! Ha. The information of it disintegrating sounded off cause I'm pretty sure my 40g is 20 years or so ..

Oh? That's what I was going to do but I was told that you can't use sealant on top of sealant ...

That is true. You should Google it like I recommended. You cut the inside sealant (not the stuff that holds the glass together) off and use some vinegar or acetone to wipe it away then apply new sealant to the corners and it will seal the corners touching both sides of the glass.
