So Mums paying me to clean out three ponds, which are massive pots filled with plants. So I managed to do one, easy peasy, though the amount of stinky sludge I found was utterly disgusting.

But the second one, apparently it hasnt been touched in 5 years, and in that time the plants have rooted themselves INTO the pot (god knows how) and filled the entire 50g pot with roots. Somewhere in that mess of roots is about 20kg worth of pavers, as well as a tonne of bricks and three plastic pots, over the top of all is the plant itself which is some type of reed.

Now I kinda really need the money, and would really like the personal satisfaction of killing those stupid plants LOL. So does anyone have any intelligent ideas to get the roots out? I've tried scissors, some sort of gardening saw and my bare hands, and only have a few handfuls of roots for my trouble.

So who's got an idea?

I think I need to save some, but they grow like wildfire, so I can just save a couple with some root attached and should be trying to dig them out of the pot again next year LOL

i'm guessing theres no fish in there so drain it take out the plants u want and burn the rest

There WAS fish in there, I'm guessing they aint there now though.

We can't move the pot until we get the plants out (30g of water, 20kg worth of pavers plus plant, way to heavy), and Mum would kill me if I tried to burn em since the pots under her favorite frangipani tree.

Okay had to share, Dad had a few mates around and I convinced them to have a go at the pot (they were extremly drunk at the time LOL) heres the results, the pot holds somewhere between 30-40g, the water we tipped out couldnt have been more then 5g's worth, this is why

Somewhere in that mess of roots is the three orandas that lived in there, a plastic pot, a tonne of bricks and pavers and another plant, which I have an inkling is gonna be kinda dead LOL.

I feel bad bout those orandas though, Mum never mentioned that they'd stopped coming up for food.
