So I got a new fish and put it in quarantine, but shortly before it arrived I realized that some of my tiger barbs had ich (The new fish also has a tiny spot of ich, but I figured that’s nothing heat couldn’t treat.) would it be more effective to go ahead and put the new fish into the larger tank for treatment, so he can benefit from the more stable water parameters?

At 86+ degrees the ich supposedly won’t be transmissible anyway, so I don’t see the harm.

Quarenteen is pointless if ur "quarenteen" tank isnt running properly. Get it up to par and go through the process. If not, i agree ur wasting ur time. Flopping fish around 2 often is more cause for harm/stress than anything else. If ur seeing ich already i would not transfer it over so its in both of ur systems.

sure did... if ur quarenteen tank isnt "stable" ur wasting ur time i agree... ur new fish is already exposed to the ich so id let everything settle/clear before u move him into another system rather than just spread the ich around.

I wouldn’t do it. Reason being is because you could find out the new fish has a different more difficult parasite to treat and then you would have contaminated your main tank with it and end up need to use more meds to treat.

If you look at the original post, I said that I noticed ich on fish in the main tank just before the new fish arrived.

Thanks for the input, that does make sense.

10/4... i assumed the barbs were in ur quarenteen... if both ur old tank and new fish have ich u have 2 treat them both anyway so u may as well combine them. anyone picking on the barbs to stress them out? that may be causing the ich if ur temps are high already.

My guess is it’s because the heater got slightly unplugged when I was messing around with the wires behind the tank.
