I set up the 220 with the 40 gallon sump filter. It was a used tank and I cleaned it really well getting off all the calcium deposits with white vinegar. I set the tank up with some media from his old tank and new media as well. I threw in about 200 goldfish, which I have not feed to get some ammonia going in the tank. The official starting time for the tank is Dec 26 at 4:00 pm. as of 9am on the 28th the ph is at 6.8 temp 77 amm, nite, nate are at 0 there is the new tank haze in the water. The plan is to add King Charles to get rid of the gold fish and then wait 5 days to add his four friends. All from the grow out tank. I need to move "The Terrible Three" "GARie" and "CC2" into the growout tank from their holding pen. This has to be all done by Sunday. The holding pen is going back to my office with the "Three Oscarteers". So when do I move King Charles?

Nobody knows what you're talking about. We don't know your fish by name. At any rate, testing your water parameters will tell you when it's ready. There is no specific timeframe.

Are these feeder goldfish from the LFS? I don't understand why someone would go through the trouble of setting up a new tank, only to throw a bunch of feeders in there and possibly introduce all kinds of diseases & parasites.

I presume, going by the OPs "My Tank Setup", the fish in question are a RTC, TSN. arowana and alligator gar...

why add in 200 feeders? i wouldnt want them to disease my fish. btw, it takes around 50 days for a tank to properly cycle. not sure who is who, but just test your water parameters every few days and see how the nitrification cycle is going... and pray those goldfish arent infected with parasites or any kind of bacterial infections.

Sorry, I was a little vague. the lfs orders me goldfish from the distributor that never goes in their tanks, that is how I have cycled my tanks for years and it always works out. then I give the goldfish to the students when they bring in a note from their parents saying they can have one or two. It has always worked for me, never had a problem... knock wood. King Charles is a 20" rtc and 4 oscars. The problem is when I go back to work next monday I have to expunge the little tank and I need the 65 to hold the next fish that I am growing out, so I have to move the rtc and 4 oscars to the 220. the question is when should I move them and should I stagger their move to the 220?

Just fort he record I never use the goldfish to actually feed my fish, that could be bad. What do you use to cycle your tank?

I use ammonia to do a fishless cycle.
