They are about one week old and are free swimming with their parents.
When should they be removed? There appears to be approx. 100 plus
fry. These are Barred Midas.
i would remove them now from what i read u want to get them out so the parents or other fish dont eat them....most people remove the eggs before they hatch but after fertilization
I have about 70 Jack Dempsey eggs with the parents in a 75 gal, there are no other fish in there.
The fry are free swimming and have been in there for about 3-4 weeks and growing fast.
I dont think there is a need to take the fry out of there yet if you dont have any other fish in the tank.
If you are worried you could take out the fry but i dont think it is essential.
Everything seems ok as the fry have been with their parents for 4 weeks now.
They have not shown any aggression towards the fry. I did have my brother take half the fry to his house to raise. I figure I'll wait another week and move the rest of the fry to a 20 gallon tank.
I figure once I remove the fry, they might breed again. Who knows.
im glad you kept them with the parents, the babys need to eat the slim coat of their parents in order to be superbly healthy. its kinda like mothers milk, its important for the proper development of the immune system and proper growth.
If the tanks doesnt have any other fish aside from the parents and fry's. I would highly suggest you just remove the parents instead. It would give you a higher rate of survival since frys are more sensitive than the parents ..
i agree with j_kriv.. i have a pair of jaguar cichlids and everytime they had babies i remove the parents instead.. they tend to eat their fries once the tank gets too crowded.. goodluck with the babies
I have removed all the fry. They are at my brothers house; and are doing great.
I felt a sense of urgency because their mothers tube had dropped again
as though she were going to lay eggs again. I did not want the parents
to start cannibalizing on the fry.
I now have jag fry. They are about 3 days old now.
