okay I have a 9 inch male umbee in my 6x24"wide 150 gallon and just wondering at what size should I allow the umbee to grow before I upgrade. this is my favorite fish ive ever had and when I upgrade im gonna try for something in the 300 gallon range. also he gets like 3 waterchanges per week of 30-50% sometimes more ( dont have to pay water).

My friend had a Umbee grow to about 18-20 inches in a 120 gallon. He is fine in the tank he is in. But if you can get something bigger than okay. But do not think he can not live happily in the 150.

The sooner the better :)

it may not be completely necessary yet but it will still be better for the fish to get him a bigger tank asap. got any pics of the guy?

6x24x24? thats 180g
5x24x24 is 150G

I would say 150 would be good for 2-3 years 3 water changes of 50% is a bit too much try 1 water change 70% per week

18-20" in a 120 thats hard to believe? standard dem for a 120g is 4x2x2 and If the umbee was close to 20" how the hell is he going to swim around in a 4' tank? and if its a long 120G usually its 18" wide and that fish will touch the front and the back of the tank..tell your friend to upgrade. 150G good for now and should be ok for another year but is too small for the long run. My umbees are in 220G and 180G both are 12"-13" and I already need to upgrade soon
