What is the tank size exactly?55,75,150,200 gallons? If its anywhere near being smaller then say 125 gallon,it wont work out too well.

Yea thats what im asking, is if the size difference right now is small enough that the oscar wont quickly outgrow the convicts and swallow them

The answer to your question is if that O can even fit half the fish in it's mouth then it will attempt to eat it. I currently have a 90g full of grow outs because my 6" Oscar has tried to eat them when being introduced to his tank. I even have 7 SD that are almost a bit bigger than a quarter and he totally ate one being at 6."

You'd think with the wide body he wouldn't bother but he did. Also I had a FM in there that was half his size and quite obviously too big for 1-2 bites. Well my O tried to eat him too. I spooked him into spitting him out and lucky for him he's fine now but my answer would be, good luck and don't be surprised when they start disappearing.

To attempt it I would definitely provide many, many hiding spots for the smaller fish. Also I'd just consider going to get a baby one month old O to introduce to the tank.

Even if you introduce this bigger O and he doesn't eat the convicts, it's extremely like with multiple convicts they will bully the hell out of the O. Size isn't everything when it comes to cichlid.

They can be greedy

lol

And they grow fast, about an inch per month.

I would wait til the convicts are bigger than the Oscar or at least the same size. Btw, how many convicts you have?

Thanks for the responses everyone, definitely given me some stuff to think about.
There are 15 convicts right now. I bought them in bulk as fry (~1cm) and didnt expect them all to survive. If they all are around much longer ill have to rehome some.
Tbh, I woulndt be too hurt if some of them turned into food.

not all Oscars will just eat their tank mates, mine actually doesn't eat any of the smaller cichlids at all,its a good thing to be honest,I have a 2 inch convict,3 inch firemouth,3 in half inch texas,3 inch salvini that he can easily eat with no issues.I say mix it up though, don't go with two oscars honestly.Go with a jack dempsey, green terror, salvini,or a texas.
