Hey guys, need some opinions please;

I've got an oscar with some silver dollars in my 92 gallon, who is roughly 6 inches. Separately, I have a convict growing out; who is approximately 3 inches, that i'd like to move into the 92 gallon.

My question is, when would it be safest to move the convict in with the O? I'm thinking when the O reaches 8 inches, but acknowledge that even then he could get beaten up, especially considering that my convict is slightly extra nutty than others i've had!

Cheers!

My feeling...if you have enough hiding spaces and decors to break the line of vision , you can introduce the convict right now.
Be on the look out for couple of days , observe the behavior , anything funny from either of your fish brings you back to square one, each in his own kingdom.
Once some fish gets accustomed to living alone for a long time , the chances of it living with another cichlid becomes slim ( personal experience).

There's no bad time to add a Convict. Best fish in the hobby.

Worst case scenario, the Convict gets eaten and you buy another one for $2.

Lol I was more worried about the convict killing my O to be honest
Unless the Convict is breeding with a female, you're probably good to go.

I agree. I love convicts. I really enjoy that old largest convict thread on MFK. Would love to see that again but I can't compete yet.

I wouldn't worry about your O they can be nasty if they want to. I had a one at 2.5" pin a firemouth to ground and shake it like a dog until was dead and then swam a way.

Wow, never thought that could happen; will keep an eye on my O more carefully now for sure.

I've just noticed some problems in the tank with the convict tonight, problem signs, so I'm gonna have to do a water change and monitor before I consider doing any moves just yet!

Also tempted to play it extra safe and just move a smaller pink convict in, never had a pink one yet lol

I was quite shocked myself. He was a wild caught O and eventually has to get rid of him. He was a little jerk and challenged everyone. 4" in a 75 gallon tank and I couldn't keep anything with him.

I just got into pink cons this year I like them. The ones I got are more white than pink. I have them with my white honduran red points. I couldn't keep female HRPS with them since cons are little tougher I though this would work and it has. The breed all the time but the fry never make it past a few day before getting eaten. I am ok with that since I don't have room for all the fry they would produce.
