2 of them are at around 6-7 inch, 1 is at 4-5 inch. They're eating blackworms like crazy and i am feeding them as much as they can eat. i put a bunch of blackworms (probably 2 spoon full) in their tank in the morning which they can't finish but will be gone by the time i feed them again in the evening , again i will put in a lot of it so it would last them through the night . i basically let them pig out so they can grow to be big rays as fast as they can coz i can't wait.
my question is , i would like to get them off blackworms and into frozen prawn. but everytime i put the chopped up prawn in they will only chew it for a little bit then spit it out. can someone with experience give me some advice on whether it's too early to start them on prawn? and how you go about doing it when it's time
thanks

go to earth worms first, fatten them up with earthworms then onto shrimp or prawn

the two at 6-7 should have no problem, the 4-5 shouldnt either but just in case i would say cut them in half

variety is good. we do a mix of things: black worms, super red worms, ghost shrimp, market shrimp. and it's really dependent on your ray. we have four sickly motoros right now (5-6") that eat super red worms (whole) like champions. we haven't tried shrimp (or prawn) with them yet, though. it's probably smart to start small and work your way up.

im glad they are eating, great save story

ghost shrimp should be fed pellets before being offered ( by themselves they have no real nutritional value) ditch the black worms go for earth worms are ok but if the rays are fat and healthy i would starve for straight shrimp

i thought ghost shrimp were good for chitin in a ray's diet..?

Nick, do you think it's too early for the 4-5 inch ray? i chopped up the prawn real good and for sure those pieces fit in their mouth with no problem. they chewed on them and then spit them out do you think it's because they need to be starved or is there another opening inside their mouth that the pieces are too big for?

ive starved that size and smaller for a week to break them to new foods... sometimes rays will take to new foods cut up real small and sometimes they need to be starved...
