Our boxer is going to be 14 in Dec, he has been in a steep decline for 6 months. Still gets up and eats, goes outside to the bathroom but in last few weeks he has lost control of his back legs. It sucks, no cancer and all his organs are working but the arthritis in his back has gotten bad.IMG_20161104_234458007.jpg

If it hurts him more to live than it will hurt you to let go, its time. :(

That being said, at the end of the day, you're the only one who can make that judgement. Its a tough call for sure, I'm glad I'm not in your shoes right now. :(

All I got to say is my boxer is 5 years old and I love him. I can only imagine how hard it is for you. If he is in deep pain and suffering then maybe euthanasia is best. But if he is still eating and you can help him get around then I say keep him as long as you can. It's a ****ty situation regardless bc I know how it feels to really love your pet/:
I hope it all works out for you and sorry for your situation wish you the best
Boxers are awesome dogs.

I feel for you but I think kittie kat is right, if there any noticeable suffering; that would be the time for me. Sometimes it best to let nature run its course, so hard to say. Wish I could give you better advice. Being a huge dog lover, my only problem with dogs they just dont live long enough...

Thanks guys, I hate thinking about that day, I didn't have a dog growing up so he was pretty much my first dog. He has good days and bad days we have pain meds if we notice he is struggling. I just ordered a product called paw friction to help with the stability while he is standing. We will see how it works.

Good luck with him, I wish you and he all the best. May I ask his name?

We had a shepherd going down this path not too long ago. Our vet recommended dasuquin and there was a night and day difference in her mobility. This case might be too far for it but dasuquin can help stop the further deterioration of his joints.

My best advice is to just enjoy him as long as he can enjoy you.

let me first say, i do love my animals,(fish, dogs, and a cat) well maybe not the cat so much,, lol im not a cat person,, and i do understand that people treat/feel that they are their kids.
You got 14 great years out of him, i know it hurts, but put him out of his misery. In the long run he is an animal and he can not care or speak for himself. I am not trying to be mean or sound like an ass but you gotta think whats best for the dog not for you. I have had to put 3 dogs down due to illness/old age, injury and it sux. Ive seen a 60 year old man ball his eyes out but in the long run it is whats best for the dog.

as long as he's eating and drinking he has the will to live. Its a super tuff choice you don't want to see them suffer but at the same time you don't want to rob him of a second of quality time. when its time you will know. Sorry its never easy.
