Hello I have an Irridescent shark that is currently 8" and Ive been housing him in a 55 Gallon, I know it is time to move him into a 75 gallon , and soon into a 125 gallon , at what length should I move him into a 300 gallon and so forth?

I'd move him to the 300 when he's between 14-18" max. A very active fish that needs lots of room to swim bro. :) Mine is in a 100 gal that is 4' x 2' x 20". Will be moved directly into the 400 gal pond I am building as soon as it is ready. :) Pond measures 8'x4'x21".

I have a different view on ids but when I had mine I put them right in the 750 when they were 1.5". Ids are very active and very skittish in small spaces. They will do better for you if you put them in as large a tank as soon as you can. (as long as tank mates are suitable)

I agree with this, but that size tank is not always available in the beggining to everyone. :) I will have mine in the 400 gal pond until I move into my own place this coming spring or summer then I will be starting work on a much larger pond. :)

Yeah jumbo tanks aren't the norm. I started with a 10g tetra tank about 35 yrs ago and worked my way up :). I've read a lot of your threads in the past back when I kept big cats and I know you are a very dedicated cat keeper.

They grow very fast. Mine went from 1.5" to over 2' in less than 2 years.

I try to practice the 4xL by 2xL by 2xL minimum rule. For an active fish like IDS, the length and width must be multiplied by 1.5, that is 6xL by 3xL by 2xL as a minimum, where L is the total length of fish.

I always see those fish in the LFS ,eyes cloudy and noses tore up from being in too small of a tank. I would go as big as possibe, as soon as you can..
