How do you know when to replace an air stone? I've been using one for five months, and it still seems just fine, but I've got a pack of replacements. How do you know when you have to replace it?

I have the same air stone in my 29 gallon from 4 years ago but I do think its on its way out. I think stones last a lot longer than the flex tubes. IMO

That would depend upon how hard your water is. Mineral deposits from hard water can clog an air stone. You can often rejuvenate them by soaking them in vinegar for a while.

Ive never replaced one. Had the same one running for close to three years.
Just what I wanted to hear! I think the pet store guy that sold me the replacement pack was just padding the sale. I'll leave it be until it doesn't bubble as much, if that even happens. Good to hear people have used the same stone for 3 and 4 years.

I keep mine for years but once they begin to not pump air like it did when it was new then ill swap it out
