I have some convict fry that are about 6 weeks old. I’ve been giving them mostly First Bites and baby brine shrimp. How do I know when it’s the right time to switch from First Bites to crumbled flakes? The fry are maybe 3/8” - 7/16” or so. Just want to make sure they’re getting enough to eat since those First Bites are so tiny.

I've had fry that small take Hikari Discus Biogold sinking pellets so crumbled flakes should be no problem. I wouldn't starve them in order for them to take prepared food like pellets or flakes, not until at least 6 months later. General rule is that if they eat it, then it will work.

You can stop now and crushed flake or crushed pellet can be offered.

Another good one that can be found easily at most stores is the hikari micro pellets. I use them on all appropriately sized fish, and they are soft for a pellet food which makes them very easy to customize the size by grinding them between your fingers, right down to almost being a powdered food. Then I step up the the vibra bites which can also be crushed easily into a very small pellet size.
