When to upgrade ?

Ok so I have 8 cichla in my 200 gallon ( 7 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft ) all my fish are 5" to 7" . How long before I "should" upgrade ? I'm tryn to hold out another year an half till we buy a bigger house. I also would love to add 1 5" arowana to my tank is this a horrible idea ? You think theyll get along? Or if I have 8 cichla and a arowana in a 200 are fish dyfs gonna get arrest me if I don't upgrade sooner ?

You can house them for as long as you like. Your tank is bigger than alot peoples on here that give 'so called' advise about needing a bigger tank! Dont worry about it just keep up your w/changes, 50% twice a wk and make sure you have enough filtration and do not overfeed.
You will be fine. Id hold back on the Arowana though for the time being.

I had 8 or 9 cichla in this video, i was water changing a hell of a lot because of how messy they were but we got through it.

These 8/9 were a lot bigger than what you have quoted so i'd not worry to much just yet - you will feel when it's too cramped as i did.

What size tank is that? How big were they?

Thanks.. Yea I've been doing 2 x 40% w/c a week and I clean poop every day off sand ... Have 2 fx5's and to large sponge filters
