One of my blue Mickey Mouse platys had about a half dozen or so (visible) fry, about a week and a half ago. So far, I still see little ones zooming through the plants and rock pile. My male beta has been seen on babysitting duty, diligently staying next to them and has never been seen going after any of the fry, even though they swim right up to his face!

My real question is, the same blue MM female is preggers again. I know they can retain sperm for up to 4 more litters. She's already very fat with a flattened bottom and super dark gravid spot. How soon after giving birth to one batch can they give birth to another?

Your male Betta keeps guard to! My guppy is prego to and when her "thing" opens shes is about to give birth.

Despite the rantings of "that beta's gonna eat your babies!" from my mom, he hasn't snacked on one yet! He's even sleeping draped on the plants housing them. Maybe he thinks they're his! Who knows what's going on, I think it's amusing.
I'm just perplexed by the blue MM getting so big so fast. It's definitely not going to the whole 3 month or whatever cycle. I wouldn't be surprised if it was within a week!

I don't think she'll last 4 weeks by the looks of her- she's hiding in a clump of ferns and "waddles" out only to eat or shoo away a very persistent sunrise male. I give it a week, tops.

On a good note, I thought I was down to only 2 fry from the last batch, but discovered that there are actually still 6 sassy little ones. I guess being mostly transparent has its advantages!

if shes doing that its gona happen real soon but the gestation period is around 4 weeks
