Not sure about the LA area, but online Nick at N-E cichlids and Rich at Infinate Aquatics get in some cool knives every once and a while (have patience). I've ordered from Nick before and he's a really stand-up guy. Also, TFD usually has at least unusual knife, but they screwed me over in the past so I can't recommend them (they also have a $200 minimum order).
