I have a RTxTSN...

I HAD a tig... Don't really wanna venture into that right now.

I am looking for a Juruense Catfish. OR a Goonch :D

Any where I can find these catfish?

I don't really care for Red Tails or Shovel nose's-

Any other cats that are interesting to keep?

I am also no interested in gulpers.

there are virtually thousands of cats to choose from. u should post what catfish personality u want.

Kind of contradictory that you don't really care for shovelnose catfish yet you are looking for one... a Juruense. The Juruense is going to require the same stuff as the Tigrinus did so if that didn't work out so well you should avoid Juruense.

Goonch is something that you probably aren't ready for either unless you have a dedicated tank for just the goonch. Bagarius specie catfish require cooler water than tropicals unless acclimated to warmer temperature over several weeks/months.

If you're looking for a change from the shovelnose/pimeloid cats try synodontis species, they are smaller growing and there are tons of different types of them that are readily available at local aquarium stores and online. My recommendation would be synodontis flavitaeniatus or synodontis decorus.

I'm was under the impression that the juranese cats were different than the shovelnose. I was also under the impression that they were hardy and easy to keep. It's not that I can't house a tig- the Prev condition plus stress from then move caused it's death.

My ultimate cat would be the goonch. I love these cats. I don't mind it having a separate single tank and I have plenty of room for one.

I want a cat that gets big, and I'm not really a fan of syno cats. The only small cat I really like is the striped Raphael cat.

I'll post more info later. At work right now. Thanks.

Tig/Juruense/Goslinea/Piraiba etc are all Brachyplatystoma species and are considered shovelnose catfish with the piraiba being known less as a shovelnose.

TSN/Lima/Planiceps are all also considered shovelnose but are different species, Pseudoplatystoma, Sorubim, and Sorubimichthys respectively.

The true Goonch, Bagarius Yarelli requires a tank over 300 gallons if you're going to attempt to keep one for a while. I'd say minimum of a 540 to last a few years. If you just like the shape of those fish then maybe Bagarius Suchus would be a good option. Rapps, tangledupincichlids.com, has some I believe now. They max out at much smaller sizes and maintain relatively similar shapes.

Hope that helps

I will definitely look into as many options as possible. I want something that's unique in it's own way, which I am sure they all are.

I've got a few tank set ups that are empty right now. 300 gallons, 650 gallons, 400 gallons, 2000 gallons and soon to be my 1500 gallon.

I love the prehistoric look of the goonch and it's color. So I would settle for one that is similar and I will definitely check out the sites.

I plan on trying to mimic it's habit as best as possible and observe it's activity as I really want to start an aquarium type book/ journal based on my experience and encounters.

I'm taking classes to become a fish vet and I am the only one in my class who has the means to get more one on one interaction than is needed and I'll get all the interaction that I can.

At first catfish werent really somethibg I enjoyed. They now seem to be one of my favorite types of fish!

What is a good catfish to house with a rtxtsn other than it's counterparts?

Also do you think a rtxtsn who only eats shrimp pellets will one day turn and go after live food? He has never been given live food and at 14" he seems to care less about my bichirs as they pile on top of him to take a nap.
