There is a warning accompanying my stainless steel UV:

"Do not connect plastic pipe or tubing directly to UV system because the UV light will break down plastic over time."

I'm told 12" runs of SS pipe or SS elbows with 6" SS runs will allow me to connect it to the PVC plumbing safely.

Are there any special plastic pipes/tubes and fittings that I could use that would not be affected by the UV radiation?

Weird, My entire UV housing is plastic? Do you have a link to this particular UV light? That may help.

i personaly would not worry about it.. however if you are going to worry about it... paint the inside of the pvc and call it done

how I look at it, your UV lightbulb is going to die, before the life of your pipes, so... everytime you change ur UV light (I have 5 spread out between 3 tanks) change your pipes, you will be fine if you do that.

Most of the things that are used for garden watering should be UV stabilized stuff as sunlight has all the UV range at lower intensity. Maybe look for a lifetime warrantee on the package? And yes, for your piece of mind, change it with the bulbs.

i think that warning is for permenant plumbing. i hooked my uv up to vinyl hose it was fine for over 3 years before took it down

don´t worry too much. theoretically uv does degrade pipes but uv light only travels a few inches through the water at any noticable intensity. I´ve had pressure systems plumbed for 10 years with uv and no problems. Eventually the pipes will degrade but it takes years not months until it becomes a danger with home uv systems

I had a barbed fitting that was threaded into my UV sterilizer crumble when unscrewing it after about a year. I have barbed fittings made out of a variety of plastics and it was the only one that had degraded.

What pressure rating was the fitting?
