where can i get a salvini cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you're in Florida, you should be able to find one in an LFS; I have bought them at least 2x from ones near me, and my favorite LFS had about six of 'em just last week . . .

where are you located?

oh, and a pair should be fine in a 36"/58G tank, tho' I'd feel better with a 48"/55G tank (length more important than total volume) . . . the males can be pretty rough, so be sure the female has places to hide . . .

ok will do i plean to eventualy have another standard 75 gallon for them i am in tampa fl, we have one lfs here marine warehouse who has a good stock of exotic cichlids they will prolly have one should i try a pair or just do a salvini and a firemouth i think pairs look amazing but its ok if it wornt work

you can find them at any lfs, or try to find a fish farm that will let you come in any take some

Try Fish world on armenia ave. And also try marine warhouse on hillsborough ave. They both will likely have salvini.

As mentioned earlier the salvini will rip the firemouths apart.

Also there is another place called "animal house" which is on hillsborough ave. It is mainly a pet store but they usually have salvini. At least they did when I was there which was about a month ago.

One more thing...

The people who run Marine warehouse are quite ignorant when it comes to freshwater species. They often have fish mislabled or not labled at all. So they very well could have salvini and not know it. You could call and ask them if they have salvini in stock but I would not trust their word, it would be best if you went in and checked in person.

These are a very common fish. If all else fails try Wal Mart. I've seen them there on several occations. You should have no problem finding some.
