Hello I'm looking to buy a lot of black gravel, enough for a couple large tanks. Does anyone know where to get good stuff for cheap?

Thanks

Hmm, I dont know about gravel, but if you want to use black sand

you could get it from what they use for sandblasters, Im pretty sure, with proper cleaning. And its in bulk, so that means plenty of sand for less.

I have some glass grit sand in one of my tanks and it has been working fine.

Im not 100% on this but im pretty sure it works, maybe someone can back me up.

hope that helps.

i buy most of my gravels from petsmart or petcos.......the commercial distributors are pretty cheap when it comes to that stuff

The last time I bought black gravel from petco it cost me like $50+. I'm going to get a bag of the lowes gravel and see how it does.

if u buy it from lowes make sure u rinse it really good

I'll never buy gravel from a pet shop anymore, the price difference is unbelievable. Yes I know that "real" aquarium gravel are cleaned very good but just got to menards/Home Depot/Fleet Farm and you'll find gravel that is similar that is about 80% cheaper.

I just saw a bag of gravel from Home Depot (30lb I think) for only freekin $2.50. I bought my 30lb gravel from petsmart for $12.99-$15.99 :WHOA:

I'm still looking for that very dark gravel too cause mine sucks. :swear:
As you can see it's just too dam light, at times my fish tries to blend with the tan rocks and become tan and loose all their patterns. I need it dark so they can turn dark all the time.

I think when it comes to buying decor...it's definately better to buy it from another source than a pet shop. I understand that there are some hardcore fanatics out there who'll say that aquarium gravel is "treated" but if you wash your gravel well, I think it'll be fine. It's like fast food...they prepare them differently, but they all pretty much taste the same.

benz...thats not true....wendy's and IN-N-OUT taste alot better than other fast food joints.

i find those big black "river smoothed" stones at 99 cent only stores and the dollar tree. $ .99

black rocks and sand, id go too rock quaries, or home depot (or the likes)
