I bought a 20gal to use as a sump. Now i'm wondering how I should go about making the "baffles" or walls".. whatever you wish to call them..

Should I order glass sheets? Is there like a plastic or something I could buy and just chop up to fit? Should I go buy a 10gal from Walmart and cut it all apart? Lol please help!

Mom has a huge glass sheet in the basement for a table she doesn't use..... !!!!! :) Just remembered after you commented.. buut how do I know if it's tempered glass or not?

She said no..soo need more ideas....

The easiest thing is just to order the right sizes from a glazier. If you're only getting a few, it shouldn't be very expensive. Otherwise, you could buy a second-hand tank and cut it up to make the baffles.

I found a large piece of glass on craigslist.

I got the cutter kit from home depot. it is a little metal wheel and some oil and a grease pen.

I was scared stiff of cutting the glass. I watched a few youtube vids of cutting glass and then picked up some glass from home depot to practice on. To tell you the truth. if you do it just like the guys in the vids. Cutting glass has to be the easiest thing I have ever cut.

The piece I finally cut was 10mm thick and it was no fuss.

Home depot sells glass for wall pictures. it is 2.5mm thick. Kind of thin. Or you could get plexi/acrylic/lexan and cut that. once you cut plexi vs glass, you will see what I mean about glass being a breeze.

Just make sure you scribe the line the whole way, and straight, with good pressure. Speed of the cut does not matter. Tap the back, or put the cutter under the glass and press and it just cracks down the scribe line. Just make sure you make 1 good scribe line or you will have issues.

here is a vid. I saw one that was awesome but I am having a hard time digging it up.

Also, if you do cut the glass. be sure to file the edges off. They become sharper then a razor. I saw one guys doing fish tank stuff say to use a rock if you are not going to use a diamond file, Just use something.

I didnt use anything as I thought I would be okay because I only needed to push the front of it. as I began to put pressure on the glass, I felt something strange on my thumb as I tired to move it over 1/4 inch. Yup... cut right into it, and did not feel it. Also I thought the cut piece was on the bottom. Oops, that was the side I PUSHED ON!!! It shut me down from doing anything else that evening as I needed my thumb and it started pulsing like a mofo and bleeding pretty bad.
