Where do fish stores get such rare fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well where do you look and how do you import them yourself?
For most of the fish you listed just find the less frequented backwaters as far as importing them they seem to be imported in a manner similar to shipping to your door, you should really get fugupuff fugupuff help

Wait till you are really after something seriously rare, thats when the true hunt begins lol...

But to answer your question, the rarest fish found at LFS’ are normally special ordered by the store, either by them contacting local fisherman to go out to catch it for them, or go through specal distibutors in said country...

Then there are the most hardcore of the store owners that will actually go and catch their own wild specimens and ship them back to their home countries...

Ok thanks for answering my question, how would you contact local fisherman? Then how would you know the fisherman aren’t my ripping you off?

I don't consider the fish you listed as particularly rare.
The LFSs in Milwaukee all carried those species as a normal matter of course, even way back when I started keeping fish back in the late 50s, early 60s.
I bought my first P-bass from a tiny store in 1960, and there were always at least a few arowana, gars, and other oddball "looking" species whenever I went.
Most had to be wild caught back then.
Today many are bred in ponds, or even tanks,

From what i’ve heard its always a gamble for the store owner unless its been a long time contact they’ve dealt with...

For people they dont know then its a lot about trust and hoping for the best, since i’ve heard many times when store owners have been scammed out of large sums of money for fish that never arrived or weren’t what they ordered...

As for how to contact them, thats basiaclly a trade secret... so you’ll need to do some digging lol...
