Where do goldfish come from?

I know they are a cyprinid, but where are they native to. They have preety much been able to establish themselves where ever they are let go but, where is their real home?

its really a complicated answer. im not sure how to go at it at the moment(not to mention its 430 in the morning :nilly:).
 
i would think that they are from asia to but hey are not related to koi or carp (koi are carp) which are from asia, and i didnt think cyprinids came from any other continent than North America. I just have no idea, it is funny that such a common fish has been changed and has become such a domesticated animal that its origin is so unknown. Usually a vague idea is known but i am stumped. I bet it probably was not origionally so orange, but has been bred to be that way.

yeah, they come from N. America, Africa, Europe, All Asia

Cyprinids are native to every continent minus South America, Antarctica, and Australia.

It is generally accepted that the Siberian Carassius gibelio is the wild form of hte goldfish, although a few people still advocate that old Carassius carassius being the descendent theory.

china through central eurasia as far as I can tell.
 
thanks for all the answers. so it did come from asia, and cyprinids are found all over the world eccept, australia, antarctica and africa.
