im new here i am looking in to getting a new tank around 70-100 gal. i have had fresh water tanks in the past but i am wanting a saltwater tank this time.

where do i start? i have no clue how hard it would be to take care of one. should i start small? i really want to build up to being able to have a shark.

how hard is it to maintain a saltwater tank?

how expensive can it get?

thanks everyone!

i don't have a SW tank or particularly know a lot about them but I will try comment. First, you need to know that saltwater fish are more susceptible to changes in water chemistry. This is because they come from the ocean where things like chemistry don't change, they therefore don't tolerate change well. Secondly, they are a lot more expensive but since i don't have one im not sure on the total cost. Thirdly you need to decide if you want a reef tank. A reef tank contains live rock which can help keep your water quality at a stable level. Depending on preference you may not like the look of live rock, especially after time passes and things start growing on it. If you want a shark make sure you find the tank size it requires.....i think one of the smallest you can get is a bamboo shark and that requires at least 125 gallons. Anyway, i know i haven't answered all your questions but since i don't know a lot i don't wanna tell you stuff that aint true. goodluck bud.
