Where do they come from?

Hello, new to the forum.
Sadly I am a tad naieve as to what part of Africa my Rainbow Cichlids come from. I also have a Jack Dempsy and a Pink Convict and really have no clue where they are from. Could someone please help me figure it out?

Actually, none of them are from Africa. They are all from Central America.

Ooh, ok, thanks. What other fish would get along with them? I want something big to control my population, if possible. my Rainbows breed like crazy.
