Where do you aim your powerhead? Do you think it really matters?

For some strange reason, (which may or may not be beneficial?), I tend to aim my powerheads towards the top surface. My thinking was that it promotes more gas exchange if aimed at the top.

Thou I do know of couple of bare bottom members here who aim towards the bottom for cleaning purposes.

Any filtration experts care to comment?

i try to aim it at dead spots where the flow of the return from my filter doesn't reach. MAXIMUM CIRCULATION!

It depends on what you want your powerhead to do. If you need more oxygen you aim at the top. If you want more current for your fish you aim in the middle. If you want to get the debris from the bottom well you aim at the bottom.

well said!:)

I use mine next to the heater aimed right down the middle to dispurse heat evanly i use a air line on mine so i figure that gives all the air exchange needed instead of aiming for the top.

:iagree:
They even have powerheads that oscillate to give you the best of both worlds.

I was actually thinking about that the other day.:) People seem to use them alot for reef tanks but does anybody here use them for their freshwater setups?
