hi, does anyone know any online store that sells black sticky back grounds? or the name of the material? i was thinking painting it, but i've always been using this sticky vinyl back ground, but now this person who buys for me is gone, i don't know where to get it. so please help if anyone knows where to get them or at least the name of the product/ material, thanks!

You kinda answered your question i think... since isn't it normally called Vinyl Backing isn't it???

Anyway here is a link i found on google... so hopefully it helps

Sticky Black Vinyl

I used those vinyl backgrounds for years being afraid of painting a tank. I've since painted one tank and I'm about to paint another. Every tank from now on will have painted backgrounds unless they're 3d backgrounds. The paint looks great and peels off really easy with a razor. I've never used the spray paint although I hear some people love that method. I just went with regular old black house paint and applied it with a roller and brush. I believe it took 3 coats to get fully covered.

thanks everyone, maybe i'll try painting the smaller tanks, and thanks for telling me the name, and the link!

You can use the static clingy window tint film too. I used the darkest one they had, and although it's still slightly translucent when you hold it up to the light, on the back of the tank with the tank lights on, it looks like any other solid black background. It stays in place, but can be peeled off and reused. Just clean the glass thoroughly, spray it down with water, apply the film, and squeeze out the air/water bubbles with a credit card, putty knife, etc.
