My problem is I picked up 35 shrimp at a auction and I put them in a 10g. I did a w/c before I put the shrimp in. The other tankmates are adult guppies and 20 fry or so and 1 hillstream loach. It was going good for a day or two then I had a dead shrimp and then guppy fry died. Then it seemed like everyday or so I had another died shrimp. So yesterday I cleaned the filter looked to see how things are going and another shrimp died. So obviously somethings wrong.

So I was wondering if I could put the shrimp in my other tank(110g) which is alot more stable. But I don't know if I should put them directly in or put them in a breeder and have them float in there with moss.

Right now in my 110 I have

Peppered cory catfish
Albino cory catfish
Otocinclus catfish
ghost glass catfish
upside down catfish
neon tetra
cardinal tetra
glowlight tetra
black skirt tetra
cherry barb
zebra danio
kuhlii loach
platy
scissortail rasbora
assortd swordtails

both tanks have plants.

What should I do? thanks in advance for any help

I actually kind of had the same problem. I bought 7 RCS and all but 1 survived. I was lucky enough to have had a RCS carrying eggs and the next thing I knew, I'm up to 15 now. I think if you were to do a water change in the 10g, use the 110g water to refill the tank.

The highlighted fish are the ones that seem to be worry some to me as I think they would go after your RCS.

OK thanks. I cleaned the filter yesterday would it be to early to do a w/c and if its not to early how much of a water change. If it is to early when should I do a w/c?

That much volume in that small of a tank, I'd be water changing it quite frequently. :( I'd be worried about overloading with all that stuff in it..

If I were you... I'd get rid of the common fish that benzjamin13 highlighted above and put the RCS in there. Platties are a dime a dozen. What exactly are black skirt tetras... just black tetras? Those aren't worth anything either. The rest of those fish should be fine.

I'd just hate to see a bunch of RCS get choked out in a small tank when there is a larger one for them to hang in. :)

the second you release the shrimp into the water the barbs will eat them.

have you got crystal shrimp or red cherries?

red cherries shouldnt be dieing unless the water quality is really bad as they are relly tough.

if they are crystal they need specific water conditions and you should of checked before buying.

people always make the same mistake of just buying shrimp because they like them with researching first.

oh and you also need to be careful what you feeding the huppies, any food with metals will kill the shrimp

Just do a small water change for now...maybe 20% or less.

Ok thanks the shrimp are red cherries. I did research them before getting them. I planned on them going in my 10g. I think my problem is that I havent did as many w/c as I use to. I slowed down on doing w/c because I thought it would help out my plants which it seems it did but I'm going to go back and start doing my frequent w/c's and that should fix the problem. thanks for the responses.

For the w/c should I just use new water(I have to 2 -gallon jugs that I let seat for a couple days) to for the 10g or use water from the 110g tank?

demonte when you say "That much volume in that small of a tank, I'd be water changing it quite frequently. :( I'd be worried about overloading with all that stuff in it.. " What tank are you talking about the 110g? I've never really had a problem with my fish load in that tank other than some newbie stuff, but that was like a year ago.
