Hey guys - anyone have a good place to buy black sand?

If not I guess I will have to go and get some from petco - but Id rather find a cheaper/different route.

Thanks

Check any local harware store....i got black beauty sand blasting sand 100lbs for 16$.... im all for supporting local business instead of chains myself...

Black Diamond blasting sand is processed differently than the silica blasting sand. It could be very bad for aquarium fish and plants. If you want black substrate I would buy it from a pet store or lfs.

I got mine from a concrete guy that supplies for pool builders. The place is called Mason Mart in Phoenix and the bags are from 3M. Maybe you can use that info to check for similar places in your area.

Thanks guys. The tank is going to be a mix of SA cichlids...so I dont think the blasting sand will work - Im too scared about hurting them.

I already have PFS - but figured colors would pop more over black.

Ive heard nightmares about sand and impellers, and even heard that the petco stuff floats, and that the caribsea stuff is magnetic - either way no good for filters.

Not sure what to do at this point.

I can verify 100% Caribsea Tahitian Moon Black Sand is or at least has magnetic pieces in it. I found this out the hard way when I found some stuck to the magnet of my powerhead.

I purchased black diamond at tractor supply..50lb for 8 bucks or so. I have corydoras in the tank and I am very worried because I later learned that their barbs get damaged, they lose them.from this sand....:( hoping for the best! good luck with your sand
