Hey I always have wanted to keep a muskie, northern pike, or bowfin in an aquarium and then as it grew move it into a pond and I was wondering is there any places in Michigan were I could buy one of those fish or even is there anywhere online were I could buy one of those fish and have them deliver to my house.

Where in MI are you? Im in WI and as long as you get the preapproval from the DNR, you can usually keep wildcaught fish. Whether it goes the same for the larger game fish, Im not sure. But I kept panfish, perch, and rock bass I caught fishing with no problems.

You could always catch em from a local pond at small sizes grow em out then release emq

A pond isnt the wild, in an aquarium they are fed everyday and rarely have to hunt, the fish will grow faster in an aquarium but once released into the wild not only will ph levels, temps etc but they will actively have to hunt food every feed which most aquarium fish cant cope with.

your right about that but he intends to do the same thing i've done. if he catches the fish from the wild i doubt they will lose their wild instincts. in my pond i put smaller us native fish as food and my dad also breeds convicts as feeders also. i've always feed my pond fish live food so they have the instincts to hunt for them selves. a pond can wild weather its man made like mine or actually wild untouched pond

have you seen florida? take a look at a place full of invasive species that are commonly kept in tanks and have started being there by people releasing them from an aquarium. now, i can see if a fish keeper has fed his/her predatory fish pellets and released it in the wild it may not know what to do but a fishes instinct is to hunt and if it is fed live food then it will hunt in the wild. that why invasive, aquarium released, fish thrive in the US and were able to breed to get a foot hold here.

also, to help the OPs question. some times companies that stock ponds will sell you stuff like that. we have a local one that i know that will sell baby flathead catfish to people.

Some shops and vendors can get tiger Muskie hybrids at small sizes.I lucked up on a near twelve inch tiger a few years ago....Members here sell bowfin from time to time, and Anderson minnow farm might even be able to get musky and pike and they ship.
