I have a 7 inch female jack Dempsey and I want to breed her. I can't find a larger male on craigslist or any other local classified ad. The large pet stores (petco and petsmart) only have small fish that would be eaten in a second. And online I can only find small fish. Does anybody know a good site where you can order fish larger the 5 inches? or does anybody on here sell them personally? I just bought a big tank but its only housing 2 fish because I can't find anything big enough. Thanks!

JDs are pretty common - I wouldn't think they would be that hard to track down. Have you tried posting a WTB add in the marketplace of MFK or any other cichlid forums?

Look thru the WTB section and MFK Vendor Forum.

It's hard to find bigger fish unless you can find one in the classifieds or at an auction or show but there is frequently surrendered fish at a couple of my LFS' that ignorant people bought thinking "oh that little black and orange fish that is begging for food looks so cute. I want it!" and then a few months later it is as big as the 10gal guppy palace they put it in and starts to eat their tetra's and loaches lol.
I've seen large FH's, RD's, RT's, O's, Jags and LOTS of large surrendered JD's there.
Tell them what you want and leave your name and number so when one comes in they can call you.
Also, a private petstore where I am gets big fish surrendered quite frequently and trades fish so they've had some pretty neat finds but the guy who runs the place is a real dick and very condescending to anyone who doesn't share his knowledge and asks any questions which he thinks a dumb one so I personally will buy the odd fish from him but like a Brittney bar-star who had one too many Jagerbombs and ended up back at some 45year old bald stinky rigger's bachelor pad...I feel gross and shameful the next morning.
