Howdy,

I am a supply hoarder and will be running low on sponge filters soon. I mean just the sponge part - I do not need (nor want) the base, the strainer or the lift tube. Most of my sponge filters are used over canister filter intakes to prolong service intervals.

Where do you all buy replacement filter sponges? Looks like my old go-to places have closed in the US (Big Al's, Pet Blvd etc).

Thanks a bunch,
HarleyK

Kensfish.com ?? been using him for food/supplies for well over 10yrs now. Food used to be cheaper, but i still think he’s pretty moderately priced across the board.

Swiss Tropicals sells Poret foam, and you can get it in a 6 x 6 x 19 block with a 1-inch hole drilled through it lengthwise. You can cut it up to make whatever height of 6x6 sponge you need. The stuff lasts forever and works like a charm.

I assume the you want something smaller than 6x6 filter intake pre-filters, so you could perhaps buy some of their 2-inch or 3-inch thick foam and cut it up as needed. I have used the 2-inch foam cut this way to fit over the drainage outlet strainer on fry tanks to prevent valuable baby fish from being lost. You can cut the hole with a pointy pair of scissors, or else soak the foam, put it into the deep-freeze overnight and then use a hand drill with whatever size bit you wish to create a nice neat hole in the stiffly-frozen foam.

I use Swiss Tropicals for all my spongy stuff. Although, I use them for the sump, not a traditional sponge filter, and I guess I supplement with nylon scrubbies. :)

Love their stuff though.
