I want to make a rockscape with a bunch of flat rocks. I went to the fish store and they have slate there but its around $4 a pound. I need quite a bit and don't really want to spend $200 on rocks... any suggestions?

Look for stone yards in your area. I have a place near me that sells primarily commercial, but does some landscaping supply too. I paid .08/lb for tuffa rock, normally a lot higher than that. I think I saw slate for $225/ton. I go so often, that if I need under 5 lbs, they just let me take it.

Any landscape supplier will be cheaper than the LFS though.

I work for a commercial flooring company, I can get as much as I want. Find a similar company.

I would look for a quary. I've got a place that has alot of scrap rock of all kind that is very nice and they sell it for $10..... wait for it..... PER TON. My father and I spent $50 bucks there one weekend.
