Hey there I am in the process of converting my 280 gallon tank from saltwater to freshwater...I know people usually do the opposite. Anyway I REALLY want a Stingray. I don't live near any good store that I would really trust to order me on and I can't seem to find any websites with stingrays for sale. I am hoping you guys can help me with this little dilemma. I checked on this site under the classifieds and saw a few rays for sale but I am looking for Potamotrygon leopoldi (polka dot) or another one of the black variety rays.

Did you check H2O Aquatics? They are a vendor here and if they dont have what you are looking for,I dont know who else would.

maybe get some experience with rays first? dropping 1200 on a ray seems a little crazy to me if you never have kept one.... but mike is the only one really fro black ray pups in the states... member name csx4236 vendor forum H20customaquatics... best top notch rays in the game...

:iagree: I wouldn't go out and by a leopoldi for your first ray, but i guess it's up to you.

Thanks for the replies guys...I did call H2O and I think I am gonna take up Hoover and Nic on their advise. I am use to dropping some coin on fish since I have been into saltwater for so long but 1200 is a lot of cash to spend on my first ray. So anybody got one for sale??? Where would I find a Leopoldi???

$1200 is a great price for a Potamotrygon leopoldi! If you are going to try to get something a little cheaper, I would suggest (for your current tank size) a pair of P. hystrix or (if you can find them) P. scobina. I would more happily suggest a P. motoro, but you'd have to be prepared to upgrade sooner than you would with the smaller rays.

Best of luck! Can't wait to see pictures of your tank!

a CB leo from mike will be bullet proof ray... but unless you cycle that tank very well basically read all stickies and books and search the hello out of this forum i would avoid it because some stupid noob mistake and dead ray... im sure at one point you lost a expensive salt water fish... if you put the time and research in go for the leo... but if you wanna wing it go for a motoro

In my humble opinion I believe you should try a P. reticulata or P. motoro first. You can always upgrade by trade or $. Get one of these hardier specimens, just so you can get a feel for ray keeping. No harm in it. A lot less money.
Respectfully,
FireMedic.

(PS: I am not trying to prevent Mike from getting any business :)) haha
